About Amaroo Childcare Centre
A family-run childcare centre in Ferntree Gully
For more than four decades, Amaroo Childcare Centre has been a familiar part of the Ferntree Gully community. We are an independent, family-run centre where children are known, families are heard and care always feels personal.
Amaroo may not be the newest or flashiest centre in the area. What we offer is something more lasting: experienced educators, genuine relationships and a natural place where children can play, learn and feel at home.
Caring for and Working with Local Families
Amaroo has welcomed many families through its doors over the past 40 years. In some cases, we have cared for more than one generation of the same family. While our centre has changed and grown over time, our purpose has remained the same. We provide children with a safe, relaxed and supportive environment where they feel accepted, secure and ready to explore.
As a standalone centre, we are not directed by a distant head office or required to follow a one-size-fits-all approach. The people making decisions about Amaroo are here at the centre, working alongside our educators, children and families.
Additional family history and milestones to be added following client confirmation.
Working in partnership with families
Our care does not end at 6:30pm or at the front gate. We work closely with parents and carers because families know their children best.
Educators share learning updates through Storypark and invite families to contribute information, ideas and goals for their child. Where extra support is helpful, Amaroo can also work with community organisations and other professionals.
New children can participate in a free orientation program tailored to their needs. This allows them to become familiar with their educators, room and routines before beginning regular care.
Experienced Educators your Child Can Get to Know
Children feel more secure when they are surrounded by familiar people. That is why the stability of our team is one of the things we value most.
Around 80% of our educators have worked at Amaroo for more than 10 years. Many children are cared for by the same familiar faces throughout their early years, from their first days in childcare to the time they leave for school. Our educators understand the centre, know the local community and build meaningful relationships with children and their families.
We don’t use Agency staff in our childcare centre
Amaroo has never used agency staff, and we intend to keep it that way. We believe children deserve to be cared for by educators who know them, understand their routines and are part of the centre’s community. If necessary, we would rather accept fewer enrolments than rely on unfamiliar agency staff to fill gaps.
For families, this means greater consistency, more familiar faces and stronger relationships with the people caring for their child.
Babies and Toddlers
Starting childcare can be an emotional milestone for both children and parents. Our educators take the time to understand your child’s individual routines, comfort needs, interests and development. Learning happens naturally through play, interaction, movement, music, sensory experiences and everyday moments with trusted educators.
Three and Four-Year-Old Kinder
Our three-year-old and four-year-old kindergarten programs combine early childhood education with the convenience and flexibility of long day care. Qualified early childhood teachers support children as they develop the social, emotional, communication and learning skills that help prepare them for school and the next stage of life.
School-Age Care
For families who remain part of the Amaroo community beyond kinder, we also offer before and after school care for eligible school-aged children, as well as vacation care. It provides continuity for children who already know Amaroo and gives families another practical option as their needs change.
Meet Our Team
Our educators and teachers bring different qualifications, experiences and personalities to Amaroo. What they share is a genuine commitment to helping children feel safe, included and confident.
Our team members are also trained in essential areas including:
First aid and CPR
Asthma and anaphylaxis management
Child safety and child protection
Safe sleep practices
Mandatory reporting requirements
This centre-wide approach means knowledge about children’s education, safety and wellbeing is shared across the whole team.
Qualified, Experienced and Continually Learning
Our team combines long-term experience with recognised early childhood qualifications and ongoing professional development. Amaroo has an early childhood teacher in every room, which is unusual within the sector. Most of our educators hold a diploma or bachelor-level qualification, with the remaining team members holding relevant early childhood qualifications.
Your Children Learn Through Play, Discovery and Connection
At Amaroo, we believe play is an essential part of children’s learning and development. Children are capable, curious learners who should have opportunities to make choices, explore ideas and take an active role in their education.
Our educators observe each child’s interests and development, then create experiences that encourage further discovery. Some learning is planned, while other opportunities grow naturally from children’s questions, conversations and play.
The Amaroo programs are guided by recognised early learning frameworks and support children’s identity, wellbeing, communication, confidence and connection with the world around them. Most importantly, we get to know each child as an individual.
Back to Basics and Back to Nature
One of the things our parents and children love is our natural surroundings and how Amaroo takes childcare and education back to basics. Our large outdoor environment includes real grass and room for children to move, investigate and enjoy hands-on play. We encourage children to spend time outdoors, connect with the natural world and begin developing respect for the environment around them.
The Amaroo approach is grounded, practical and real. Childhood does not need to be overly complicated. It needs caring adults, space to explore and the freedom to learn through experience.
